When something is broken
A bug report is much easier to act on with a few details. If you can, put these in the mail:
- What you were doing, and what happened instead of what you expected.
- Your iPhone model and your iOS version, from Settings, then General, then About.
- The app version, from the app settings.
- A screenshot or a screen recording, if the problem is something you can see.
Please do not send a scrap you would rather keep private. A description is enough in almost every case.
Quick answers
Can I use a photo from my library?
No. Every scrap is taken in the app. That is on purpose, because otherwise you would end up picking your best photo instead of photographing today.
What happens if I miss a day?
Nothing. The day is not shown in the book at all, there is no streak to lose, and you pick it up again whenever you want.
Can I go back and add yesterday?
No. Once a day has passed it is closed, and there is no way to fill it in afterwards.
Can I swap the picture out after I punched it in?
No. The punch seals the day. You can retake the photo as often as you like before you punch it in, and nothing is saved while you are still looking at it.
Can I delete a single scrap?

Where are my scraps kept?
On your iPhone. Each scrap is also saved into a Photos album called scrape a day, so you always have a copy in a place you control.
The camera stays black or the app says it has no access.
The app needs camera access, because a scrap can only be taken live. Open Settings, then Privacy and Security, then Camera, and switch scrapeaday on. If that does not help, close the app fully and open it again.
My scraps are not showing up in Photos.
The backup copy needs permission to add photos. Open Settings, then Privacy and Security, then Photos, and check what scrapeaday is allowed to do. Scraps you punched in while the permission was off are still in the app, they were only not copied over.
The daily reminder does not arrive.
The app can remind you once a day, and the default time is 19:00. If nothing arrives, open Settings, then Notifications, then scrapeaday, and check that notifications are allowed. A Focus mode can hold them back as well.
What does the home screen widget show?
Today's prompt while the day is still open, and a throwback to an older scrap. Add it the usual way: touch and hold the home screen, tap the plus in the corner, and look for scrapeaday.
What can I export?
A share card of a single scrap at 1080 by 1350 pixels, a month poster in A4 at 300 dpi, and a wallpaper collage at 1290 by 2796 pixels. Nothing leaves the app unless you export it yourself.
Does it cost anything?
The first version is free, and there is no paywall screen anywhere in the app.
Is there an Android or iPad version?
Not right now. scrapeaday is an iPhone app and needs iOS 17 or later.
I am moving to a new iPhone.
Your scraps live on the device, so they travel with your normal iPhone transfer: an encrypted backup or a direct device to device transfer brings app data across. The copies in the Photos album called scrape a day come along with your photo library.
What the app asks for, and why
- Camera
- Required. A scrap is taken live in the app, so without the camera there is nothing to punch in.
- Adding to Photos
- Optional. It is only used to put a copy of each scrap into your own album called scrape a day. The app does not read your library and cannot see your other photos.
- Notifications
- Optional. One quiet reminder a day, and nothing else.
The app has no account, no server and no tracking. There is nothing to log in to and nothing that gets uploaded.
Your data
Everything the app makes stays on your iPhone. If you want all of it gone, delete the app, and your scraps go with it. The copies in your Photos album stay in Photos until you delete them there, which is the point of having them.
Because there is no server, there is also no account of yours on my side to delete. The one exception is the waitlist on this site, which is described in the privacy policy.
The waitlist
If you signed up for the launch note, every mail from that list has an unsubscribe link at the bottom. One click and the address is removed. You can also write to the support address above and ask me to take it out.
Ideas and feature requests
They are welcome, and I read all of them. The app is meant to stay small, so most answers will be no, and that is not a judgement on the idea. If you tell me what you were trying to do, that helps more than a feature name.
